This research study employed a qualitative research design to collect and analyses the data. A small sample of 125 students who belonged to 10 public universities in Bangladesh was chosen through purposive sampling and the universities were chosen randomly. ABSTRACT

Rape is a crucial abuse of human rights that mistreats one person’s sexual autonomy, bodily integrity, and dignity. It is a violent and coercive act that harms deep physical, psychological, and emotional wounds. Despite laws against rape worldwide, cultural and societal attitudes often blame victims, causing many cases to go unreported and not able to be punished due to fear, stigma, and lack of legal support. The legal understanding of rape has changed over time, moving from a narrow view of forceful intercourse to recognizing any unwilling act as rape. This abstract highlight the legal definitions and protections to treat rape as a serious human rights violation, ensuring justice for victims and encouraging societal change to eliminate this crime.

ABSTRACT

Genocide and similar crimes have plagued humanity for ages. Even though the objective of international law, which was enacted after World War II, was to put an end to genocide, atrocities nonetheless occur frequently today due to the shortcomings in dealing with the crime. This paper analyses the international legal framework governing the prevention of genocide. It thoroughly reviews the provisions of the Genocide Convention and customary law obligations and how the concept of genocide is applied in different contexts. It examines the challenges posed by current international law’s definition of genocide and potential advancements under international law. Furthermore, it shows the International Criminal Tribunals’ ineffectiveness in preventing and prosecuting genocide. Although there has been progress in international law to prevent genocide, it remains the most serious threat to humanity. This paper finds that, despite significant advances, fundamental shortcomings still exist in the international legal framework for genocide. Hence, it provides recommendations that could be potentially useful in successfully preventing the crime of genocide. Finally, the paper concludes that the current international framework for genocide is ineffective in preventing and punishing the perpetrators of genocide.

ABSTRACT

Zadie Smith’s debut novel White Teeth (2000) primarily depicts the lives and struggles of three families that span over two generations. They are ethnically, culturally and socially different from each other though they share the same spatio-temporal setting of multicultural London. While doing so, it critically explores the predicaments of the characters’ attempt to make sense of their identities, cultures, histories, lineages and perceptions of the world around them. So, this paper aims to address the characters’ struggles and argues that such problems stem from their psychological scars, trauma, and unresolved conflicts that are deeply rooted in their personal experiences. Furthermore, this paper examines how personal trauma coupled with the trauma of war, cultural shocks, displacement and collective histories are manifested in broader social context and result in fragmentation/reconfiguration of the self. In order to do so, this paper extensively draws attention to the literary theory of trauma studies. Also, the convergence of other theories in the later phase of the development of trauma theory is also taken into account while conducting this research. Moreover, this research is conducted to add new insigh ts to the interpretation and understanding of the text as no such attempt is made so far.
